The story of Southern Grounds Coffeehouse is pretty simple. The owners, (there are two of us and we both call Gulfport home), decided that there was a serious shortage of good places to drink coffee on the Mississippi Coast and that Lorraine Road would be a perfect location to open a coffee shop.
Rather than franchise, we decided that it would be best to design a brand that would appeal to the shop’s surrounding neighborhoods and also one that would cater to the morning commuters who pass by each morning. With the surrounding area in mind, we opted to do things a little bit nicer than what one might typically expect out of a coffee shop. Not long after opening, we began to offer lunches, which evolved from turkey melts and Zapp's potato chips to Sauteed Shrimp po-boys and Shrimp & Grits.
To grasp our brand, it’s not necessary that you visit the Pacific Northwest first. As a matter of fact, you need only to be familiar with the Gulf South and some of many, wonderful things that people love about the area. As far as we’re concerned, we’ll take an afternoon at Jazz Fest or a weekend in Gulf Shores over a trip to Seattle any day. It’s not that we don’t like other parts of the country; we just love it down here.
If you haven’t already stopped by to visit us then please do! If you’d like to help us improve our store and have a suggestion, or if you’d like to know a little bit more about us, please send us an Email.
